For most of his career, Donald, has been a builder. Growing up on a farm in rural Manitoba he
went on to a career where he spent many years in construction and heavy
industry.
With his wife Susan, he moved to an acreage north of the
city of Winnipeg where they planned to raise a family until congenital heart
disease changed the direction of their lives.
This is when Donald began writing, sharing his experiences, as a patient
advocate, and making the case for excellence in health care.
A Project Manager and a Chartered Professional in Human
Resources by trade. He has leveraged his
professional and lived experience to become a leader in Health Care. As a health care super user, speaker, and
blogger, he has shared his family’s story on numerous occasions to help
influence health care policy. This
advocacy work has lead him to participate in numerous committees, boards and
health care conferences.
He has been a board
member of the Seven Oaks General Hospital (Winnipeg, MB), Council Member with
the Family Centred Care Council of the Stollery Children’s Hospital (Edmonton,
AB) and a Board Member of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Hi Donald. I bought your book for Daryl for Christmas - and I just finished reading it! Thank you for sharing your family's story. All of you have faced tremendous hurdles that I'm so glad to see you've been able to withstand and overcome. I hope all goes well with the 'cardiac kids' (you look great, Susan!) Take care. Marian
